Unrefined coconut oil is obtained from the inner fleshy part of the coconut, which is called copra. The process of extracting the oil involves grating and drying the coconut oil, after which it is gently pressed at a low temperature and passed through filtration. The resulting product is high-quality, unrefined, unbleached coconut oil that has retained all of its valuable quality qualities.
Coconut oil is 100% fat, of which up to 90% is saturated fat. This gives it a firm texture at low and room temperature. Fats are made up of small molecules called fatty acids.
